{"id":35461,"date":"2021-10-25T19:01:05","date_gmt":"2021-10-25T15:31:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zardis.net\/news\/?p=35461"},"modified":"2021-10-25T19:01:05","modified_gmt":"2021-10-25T15:31:05","slug":"%e2%80%9csteppenwolf%e2%80%9d-surfaces-again-in-iranian-bookstores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zardis.net\/news\/en\/35461\/%e2%80%9csteppenwolf%e2%80%9d-surfaces-again-in-iranian-bookstores\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cSteppenwolf\u201d surfaces again in Iranian bookstores"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"summary\">TEHRAN \u2013 A new Persian translation of German-Swiss author Hermann Hesse\u2019s tenth novel \u201cSteppenwolf\u201d has been published in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The Elmi Farhangi Publishing Company is the publisher of the book rendered by Keikavus Jahandari.<\/p>\n<p>At least three other Persian editions of the novel have previously been published in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Originally published in Germany in 1927, it was first translated into English in 1929.<\/p>\n<p>The novel was named after the German name for the steppe wolf. The story in large part reflects a profound crisis in Hesse\u2019s spiritual world during the 1920s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSteppenwolf\u201d was wildly popular and has been a perpetual success across the decades, but Hesse later asserted that the book was largely misunderstood.<\/p>\n<p>It is a poetical self-portrait of a man who felt himself to be half-human and half-wolf.<\/p>\n<p>This Faust-like and magical story is evidence of Hesse\u2019s searching philosophy and extraordinary sense of humanity as he tells of the humanization of a middle-aged misanthrope.<\/p>\n<p>Yet his novel can also be seen as a plea for rigorous self-examination and an indictment of the intellectual hypocrisy of the period.<\/p>\n<p>As Hesse himself remarked, \u201cOf all my books Steppenwolf is the one that was more often and more violently misunderstood than any of the others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 1946, Hesse received the Nobel Prize for Literature.
