Birjand University of Technology has started its work since 1975 and of course as the University of Industries and Mines of South Khorasan and under the supervision of Iran University of Industries and Mines. This university became independent from Iran University of Industries and Mines in 1986 by the direct order of Ahmadinejad, the then president of Iran, and thus, the first industrial university in the east of the country was formed.

Birjand University of Technology now has more than 70 full-time faculty members teaching about 2,500 students. The library resources of this university are more than 10 thousand volumes. It can be said that in South Khorasan, in addition to the university community, provincial officials and members of parliament also opposed the implementation of the higher education plan in this province according to the instructions of the Ministry of Science and warned about the social consequences of this plan. In a letter to the Minister of Science, Ayatollah Ebadi, the representative of the Supreme Leader in South Khorasan, called the implementation of this plan hasty. In the letter, he stated that Birjand University of Technology has the potential to become a scientific hub and a platform for development programs in the east of the country, adding that “its inclusion is a loss to the research activities of the university’s elite and a sharp contradiction with the balanced development of educational justice.” has it.”

 

Along with the representatives of the people of South Khorasan in the Islamic Consultative Assembly who protested against the implementation of this plan in the open court of the Assembly, Ruhollah Izadkhah, a member of the Industries and Mines Commission, also reacted to the Minister of Science by warning the Minister of Science about compliance. He announced justice and efficiency in implementing this plan and avoiding stressful mergers in some provinces.
